“Well-rounded characters and a comprehensive story combine to deliver an exciting and original tale that
leaves me wanting to know what happens next. There are some interesting plot twists and surprising reveals throughout the story that keep the pages turning. It also has two of the most evil villains anywhere who seem to have all the power, though they may not always be on the same side, even though one is employed by the other. Add in some fantastic creatures and it will appeal to everybody.
Looking forward to the next book..”

“What first drew me into the world of Almythea was the great team behind it but when I
read the story, I was hooked. It’s a new mythology and an epic SciFi space opera series,
filled with fantastic characters. Projects like this rarely come along and to be in on the
ground floor is very exciting. The world that A.J. Cootes has created is fresh, original,
enchanting and at times confronting in a thought-provoking manner. Knowing Bruce
Logan was on board as the lead story consultant, knowing his background with the mega
hit SciFi franchises that have come before, was icing on the cake. Bruce is such a
complete professional and A.J. Cootes is such an expansive visionary, the combination is
simply dynamite. I am proud to be associated with this project and look forward to
walking the red carpet when it is launched onto the big screen.”

“ALMYTHEA - Rise of Wingtar, has a fantastic recipe of love, intrigue, evil, magical creatures and a hero that will delight the readers. It’s an exciting, page-turning story full of characters to love, hate, make you laugh and cause you to gasp. The plot twists kept me in suspense and wanting to know more.
I wasn’t disappointed and feel it’s a must must read. I can’t wait for the next book.”

"It is so exciting to read a new fantasy sci-fi novel with completely new characters whom we can cheer for. A.J. Cootes takes us on an unsettling ride in his new novel, Almythea – Rise of Wingtar.

The characters are mystical but relatable. The story is full of demons that we love to hate. The theme of good versus evil always hooks the reader and in this, there is no exception. The plot twists and turns with various entities taking the upper hand. It appears that everyone is trying to escape from something. It all comes down to the method they plan to use to achieve that escape. Immediately, the reader is drawn to the slave-workers whose meaningless lives are controlled by the beastly Latchers. Raven Weaver and her army, in turn, control the Latchers.

We are led through the turbulent times as young Little Hawk struggles with his past and his desire to be with the one he loves, Broken Arrows. Little Hawk is charming and appealing and we quickly admire the strong and competent Broken Arrows. A raft of heroes find themselves fighting all adversaries, including nature at its most destructive. We watch the new characters growing in maturity and especially enjoy the amusing and clever fleafs.

A.J. Cootes writes with clear imagery transporting the reader into the new worlds of Almythea and Callisus. All of the senses are invoked along this journey. The reader ‘rides’ on the horses across the Great Plains and ‘hears’ the screeching of the Spiderlings. The easy and seamless flow of repartee between characters allows the story to flow smoothly.

A.J. has us enamoured by the inner strength of Petelia, Moonshadow and Grey Paw in a time and place of magic and ancient wisdom. The simpering, insipid Gyeder and the conniving Straightwalker disgust us. In a time and place of magic and ancient wisdom we learn of royalty bestowed on the unworthy and, henceforth, despised by the majority. We also learn to fear the ominous Badlands and the Evil Whisperers. Overriding all are the background hints of the Astra, the mortal champion. Occasionally the reader gets a glimpse of the relevance of the Astra and the mystical forces that could help, but cannot. Who is the Astra? You will wonder who are the real heroes. Does the game go to the winner? What is the outcome of the contest? Nonetheless, Almythea is a place we have never known...or have we? As A.J. says, “There is ‘a sparkle and magic to life on this planet......’” There is sparkle and magic in this first novel."

If you like stories of heroes in the making, of shape-changers and mythical creatures, of technologically advanced beings butting heads with those who value the natural world, then chances are you will enjoy Almythea. If you like to find familiar themes from sci-fi and fantasy, reimagined with influences from ancient earth myths, then chances are you will enjoy Almythea. If you like to read books where word-play and word-pictures that enable you to “see” the author’s creation are a feature of the story-telling, then chances are you will enjoy Almythea. And if you like good adventure tales that end in a cliff-hanger of thwarted happiness, then chances are you will enjoy Almythea – Rise of Wingtar. The book definitely has cinematic potential - I’m looking forward to the movie, and hope the hero’s plight is resolved in Book II!

Oh - to be blessed with an imagination like A.J Cootes has!!! What an incredible gift it is.
‘Almythea’ - transports you into another world from the opening page. Filled with extraordinary, larger than life characters... it is a rip-roaring, fast paced novel filled with some good old fashioned battles between good and evil, light and darkness, freedom and suppression, the sharing of wisdom and of course, there’s romance as well.
It will leave you dreaming about Spiders and Ravens and desperately wishing you could know a Fleaf or two. It’s total escapism and it’s a lot of fun. I cannot wait for the next novel already... and to see this incredible new world burst onto the big screen. I have a feeling we are all going to get to know it very well.
